I need some help. I’m entering the Taste Canada Best Blog Post competition and have to choose a 750-1250-word post from the last year. It should be a recipe, a restaurant review or about a food experience. It will be judged on writing, photos, originality, organization/focus, blog aesthetics, SEO and its title. It should also exemplify “good literary style in celebration of food.”
It can be general, “focused on specific Canadian topics or regions, and/or target a very specific audience, such as an ethnic group (in terms of race, nationality, or religious heritage) in Canada or around the world. This category may also explore culinary history, politics, or social awareness.”
With those criteria in mind, I’m trying to pick my best post from the last year.
And I need an objective third party (you) to help by reading through these articles below (skimming, even) and telling me what you like the best. What touches you? Which title, recipe, photos and writing draw your attention and maintain your interest throughout the post? What do you think has the best chance of piquing the interest of the judges?
In return, I’m offering a goodie basket of my home-canned preserves, pickles, aigre-doux and syrups. I’ll enter the name of everyone who leaves a comment of their top two choices here before 11:30pm on March 18, 2015 into a random draw for the gift basket. If you live outside of Montreal or Toronto, we’ll come up with a better arrangement for shipping that won’t cost a fortune. But rest assured we’ll come up with a fair trade.
I’ve whittled the choice down by group:
