Strolling through downtown Lima (the business district with a bunch of museums, not the party district) I ran into a gastrographical museum. I don’t think that’s a real word. Spellcheck agrees with me, but maybe in Spanish it exists. Anyway, the point is that the museum existed and there was this fun-filled map of the different regions of Peru and the according types of cuisines . It even had pictures of tradition dishes including Huallpachupe (chicken soup from Cusco) and Corn with Andean cheese, and Chicha (a fermented drink usually made with maize/corn but sometimes made with quinoa, according to the map). The basic rundown of the map is that you’ve got the North coast, south coast, desert, jungle, and south coast. So that means fish, guinea pig, fruit, jungle trout, root vegetables and strange herbs all mixed up together in one country. It’s basically tropical paradise/mountainous cold/beach/clay land all rolled into one.
