How long has this guide to the best restaurants, cafés, bars, farmer’s markets, butcher shops, fromageries and boulangeries in Montreal been a work in progress?
Too long! Myself and Melissa Simard of ‘Round Table Food Tours have been working on it for what feels like ages, and now we’re finally able to say…
Now you can carry it and its gorgeous pictures (don’t worry – I didn’t take them!) anywhere you go in the city on your phone, tablet or e-reader.
The Montreal e-guidebook is available for download from Amazon’s Kindle Store, Apple’s iBooks store and the Glutton Guide website.
Just before we published, the editors asked me for a quote, and here it is:
“Montreal is a strange and beautiful mix of European charm, tattoo-heavy celebrity chefs, a love for duck fat and all things pork, an obsession with bagels and – oddly – a clean living mentality juxtaposed with a ‘you-only-live-once’ spirit,” says Amie Watson. “We’ve spent more than a decade exploring its fine dining heavy-hitters, its boulangeries and its casse-croute dives alike, and we’ve distilled it all here, like high quality local Gin, into this Glutton Guide.”
Looking for the best pouding chomeur, pain perdu or pumpernickel bagel? How about the top five must-do Montreal experiences? Whether you’re visiting the first time, the tenth or you live here yourself, I can pretty much guarantee you’ll learn about a new great spot, whether that’s a basement Sichuan joint that serves fish in casserole dishes hot from the oven or a food truck serving Acadian ployes (that’s a food, not an action). There’s also a language guide, tips on getting around (the fickle bus system and the Bixi option), hotel and B&B suggestions (that come with killer breakfasts), a special section for vegan, vegetarian and gluten free fare and even the top daytrips outside of Montreal that’ll get you onto farms or fine dining experiences in Quebec gorgeous Laurentian mountains or Cantons-de-l’est.Plus, there are the handy map pull-outs (can you call it a pull-out if it’s digital?), all grouped by neighbourhood:
But if you’re already a Multiculturiosity reader, you might just like the guide to read my voice in all the ridiculous reviews and recommended best dishes at all of my favourite places in Montreal. From a soliloquy on the mixed salad plate at The Green Panther to the kitchen torched marshmallow in the Camp Fire cocktail at M sur McKay.
And there’s a permanent Glutton Guide page on my blog with more info about the guide, in case you can’t find this post the next time you’re looking for it.
And before I leave you with a few more photos, I just want to say thanks to all the restaurants that gave us photos and wrote in to tell us that their opening hours or phone number or websites had changed. We wrote this guide because we love you; we didn’t include anywhere that we don’t love the food, staff or culinary experience.
