More than 250 exhibitors took over Montreal’s Palais de Congrès today for day one of the annual Healthy Eating and Green Living Expo. The 18th edition of Expo Manger Santé et Vivre Vert has even more vendors this year selling gluten-free breads, dairy-free ice creams, vegan skincare and alternative health practitioners.
My personal discoveries for the day were a new brand of coconut water from Jax on sale for $2.50 a litre, some incredible pomegranate-blueberry juice made from organic berries with no sugar added and not from concentrate and a company selling Atlantic wild, sustainable seaweeds. My favourite gluten-free bread (I tried them all, yes) was from Cookie Stéfanie. It’s buckwheat-based but light as a feather and without the cake-i-ness of coconut flour or bitterness of most other buckwheat breads I’ve tried. I just wish she’s had her wildberry muffins at the expo. They’re an incredible g-f, d-f treat. Fortunately, I can find them any time at her store in Old Montreal.I’d start the day with one of those and end it with a scoop or two of Coconut Bliss’s fieldberry frozen dessert.
