The second weekend of Mtl à Table — the time of year when foie gras can be found on $41 prix fixe menus citywide — might not seem like the best time to hold the annual Montreal Vegan Festival.
But when you’ve OD-ed on pork belly and tapped out on crème caramel, maybe it’s the right time for a detox.
Besides, now that you know a little more about the dangers of bacon, you might want to learn about the dangers of soy (and virtues of sustainable farming), or – more sensorially – the deliciousness of raw-vegan key lime pie).
And there’s no better way to do that than with more than 5,000 likeminded healthivores this Saturday, Nov. 7 between 10am and 6pm at the vegan fest, a day-long event of conferences, workshops, cooking demos…and samples.
Perks? Yes. Sponsors include Aux Vivres and Sophie Sucrée, so you won’t even feel like you’re denying yourself when you try Sophie’s pecan tarts (think maple and coconut milk, and not a hint of corn syrup).
Or if you prefer your veganism loud and Pad Thai-y, you’ll be happy to know that the Vegan Black Metal Chef will be on hand to demonstrate the wonders of tofu.
Quieter vegans can enjoy Marie-Josée Richer of PRANA’s chia jam demo. And the whole line of the dried fruit and nuts company’s snackables.
And those sticking to juicing (or those just in search of some sound reasons to give up goose year-round), can check out Dr. Tushar Mehta‘s presentation on the organization Run for the Earth, which ”helps people sort through the mass of environmental information and misinformation, and develop a systematic understanding of ecological issues,” says the workshop description.
You can even go all-in with the interactive 21-Day Vegan Challenge, which includes a comprehensive recipe guide, expert advice and resources to get you on the animal product-free path.
The best part? The festival is free! So is the challenge: http://festivalveganedemontreal.com/2015en/challenge/
