This morning I highlighted a few of my favourite wine bars in Montreal on Global TV with Laura Casella for my regular Foodie Friday segment. I headed into studio with a beautiful antipasti tower from Un Po’ di Più, a new Italian natural wine bar (or caffè aperitivo) that serves everything from breakfast to dinner. And I had four bottles from private import wine companies Oenopole and Glou. So I need to say thanks to Dyan Solomon of UPDP (she’s also a co-owner of Olive et Gourmando and Foxy), her wine wizard sommelier Kaitlin (to whom I need to apologize; how do I get teroldego correct and mess up saying Kaitlin’s name on live television?). And a big thanks to Dave Pendon of Oenopole and Jack Jacob of Glou.
If you’re wondering about those wines, I popped a Prosecco from Bisol to start the segment. Next to it was a Teroldego from Folonari. On the Glou side of the table I had a bottle of Chiar-otto rosato from Daniele of Villa Calicantus and a Pinot Auxerrois from Christophe Lindenlaub.
The last three wines (and winemakers) were at RAW wine, which happened yesterday for the first time in Montreal (and the first time in Canada!).
And the other wine bars I mentioned that hi my criteria of winebar stardom based on ambiance, price, quality, selection and food, included:
Route Gorge, Pullman and Moleskine. I didn’t get enough time to mention Bar Henrietta and Loïc, the latter being my go-to sudouest/St-Henri wine bar, even though prices have gone up since they opened, and they don’t do half glasses like at most of the others.
