Last night was the industry party at Le Livart in Montreal for Cocktail Invasion 2018. Each nook of the gallery was devoted to a type of spirit: Trois-Rivières rum, Absolut vodka, Woodford Reserve bourbon, etc. The bourbon room was serving a variation on an old fashioned, with a recipe a bit different from what’s on offer this week at Madame Smith. But you can’t have too many variations on a delicious theme, can you? So here’s the way they make it at Madame Smith. You have until Sunday to try it there, though they usually have a version made with Wiser’s on the menu, and you can probably always make a special request.

Just wanted to give a shout-out to the new Fever Tree tonic made with elderflower. It was the best with the Cirka gin, I thought.
