It’s not too late! There’s still a week of summer before the darn Equinox pulls the ice cream sundae rug out from under us.
That means there’s still time to try the caramel and raspberry coulis-topped ice cream sundae with whatever two scoops of the four or five daily flavours you want. I’ve seen everything from vanilla to chocolate mint to raspberry swirl to chocolate and hot pepper to sweet black pepper (so, so good with just the tiniest bit of pepper that hits you when you least expect it).
And the best part is it comes in an old school parfait glass with maple-roasted hazelnuts (maybe the best part – the nuts).
I’m an addict. I admit it. I stopped here every other day when I was working the Plateau. It opens early, so I’d drop in on my bike ride to work for a blueberry-maple or cranberry-ginger muffin. (The day-olds ones are half price, though they don’t have the addictive crust of the fresh versions – nothing a toaster oven can’t help fix.)
I’m also a big fan of the dairy-free, gluten-free pecan tarts with tons of maple syrup instead of corn syrup and just a little coconut milk in place of heavy cream. Then there were the days I needed the non-cheesecake squares with caramel sauce and the nutty, chewy bottom crust.
I could rarely finish a muffin in one sitting (and regretted it when I did – this isn’t diet food), but I had no problem downing the sundae. And I wish summer would last longer so I could keep eating them. I guess if winter has one thing going for it, it’s the ability to kill my ice cream addiction. But am I better off?
