Week Two of the Montreal Highlights Festival (everyone still seems to call it Montreal en Lumière, even anglophones) means more dinners and lunches. If you missed out on last week and the cheese fest and the Nuit Gourmande, that’s okay! There are tons of opportunities for great eating and drinking left. My recommendations below are some that I’ve written about before and some new ones. Some are one-night-only (e.g. Portus 360’s Portuguese dinner tonight with invited chef Carlos Teixeira) and others are one that will repeat a few times this week (e.g. a Peruvian lunch at Le Margaux for the next three days).
Fine Dining Portuguese
Wednesday, Feb. 26: First off, this Portuguese chef at Portus 360 is a $100 dinner with a view. Chef Carlos Teixeira of vineyard restaurant Herdade do Esporão will be cooking a seven-course meal tonight around products from the Alentejo region of Portugal, including pork, clams, asparagus and wild mushrooms, bread, coriander and olive oil. You can even win a trip for two to Portugal by attending.
$100 or $150 with wine pairings, plus tax and tip
Peruvian Lunch
Feb. 26, 27 and 28: That Peruvian lunch I wrote about last week is on today, tomorrow and Friday at Le Margaux.
$28 plus tax and tip.
For Beer Lovers
Feb. 26, 27, 28 and 29: Calling all beer and brasserie lovers. With bread from bakery Chez Guillaume, cheese from Aux Terroirs, and sausage and terrines from Aliments Viens and beer pairings for just an extra $10, this five-course dinner at Le Boulevardier is a steal.
$45 or $55 with beer pairings, plus tax and tip.
For the Lovingly Raised Beef
Feb. 26, 27, 28, 29, March 1: Au Petit Extra on Ontario St. is serving a meal of meat from Bolton farmer John Badger’ lovingly raised Highland cows and bulls. His cattle range freely and happily all year long and are raised without antibiotics, hormones or chemicals.
$70 or $110 with wine pairings, plus tax and tip.
Feb. 26, 27, 28, 29, March 1: I really have no idea how good this $25 lunch or $50 dinner at Le Valois featuring root vegetables will be, but the price is right and I love the concept. Hopefully the lunch will be popular with Old Montreal workers. Here’s the sales pitch from the website: “Cécile Salomé and her sous-chef Maëva Clerc are pleased to present a menu spotlighting root vegetables from Quebec’s farms. Let your taste buds soar through this symphony of flavours featuring hibiscus flower, smoked oat milk, and black lime, among others.”
Feb. 26 and 27: Panko-crusted broccoli and two glasss of organic, vegan wine make up this 5à7 (actually 4pm to 6pm, strangely…) after-work deal at Bistro Tendresse. At $25, you might even want to stay for dinner afterwards.
$8 a snack or $25 for a snack and two glasses of wine
Enjoy!
